Hey, it's me syd
welcome to my EPK.
Sydney Wright makes “Texas Pop”: shimmering, smartly layered pop/alt built from live loops, Ableton automation, live-loop textures, and a voice that’s equal parts warmth and grit.
bio:
Sydney Wright is a West Texas–born pop polymath crafting shimmering, smartly layered “Texas Pop” out of Austin—warm hooks with experimental edges, built from live loops, Ableton automation, and a voice steeped in warmth and grit. Featured on the NPR Austin 100 List and nominated for Best Pop Act at the Austin Music Awards, she returns with her Valentine’s Day single:
“JOHN CENA,” is an all-green-flags anthem about stepping into a new connection that’s compelling and clear - no games, just mutual energy. It’s a confident, feel-good love song powered by steel guitar and a vibe.
Sounds like:
Maggie Rogers, Imogen Heap with a Texas twist
Featured: NPR Austin 100 List
Nominated: Best Pop Act — Austin Music Awards
Awarded: Major Sonic Guild Grant 2019
Press:
With a bit of smartly deployed vocal processing — closer to Gordi than, say, Imogen Heap — Wright crafts a wildly catchy kiss-off anthem that bypasses simple slogans in favor of a more thoughtful awakening. -Stephen Thompson, NPR Music
Sydney Wright’s debut full-length amounts to a greatest-hits-so-far for the Austin pop polymath, whose lush, layered compositions are hallmarked by slow-burning verses erupting into gargantuan hooks. - Kevin Curtin, Austin Chronicle
About
Sydney Wright is a West Texas–born pop polymath crafting shimmering, smartly layered “Texas Pop” out of Austin, Texas—hook-forward songwriting with experimental edges, brought to life through live loops, Ableton automation, and a voice steeped in warmth and grit. Raised in Snyder, TX in a music-filled household (piano lessons before school, church harmonies, her dad’s bluegrass and classic-rock guitar), Wright traded formal lessons for the freedom of teaching herself guitar at 15 and never looked back. After studying ethnomusicology at North Texas University, she moved to Austin in 2015 and built a reputation as a dynamic songwriter, performer, audio engineer, and live sound expert—equally at home onstage and behind the console. With a growing catalog that stretches from bold guitar moments to rhythm-driven pop, Wright’s latest release, “JOHN CENA” (Feb 14), is a bright, steel-guitar-laced love song about all green flags—proof that pop can be both smart and sincerely fun.
Live show:
Sydney Wright delivers a groove-forward, pop-forward set that can scale from solo live-loop performance to duo/quartet, blending real-time looping, tight arrangements, and big vocal moments with the polish of her studio production.
“For anyone who has ever had any preconceived skepticism about looping in recorded tracks or live music, Sydney Wright is here to shatter all your doubts. ”
